How to Repair Corrupted MBR in Windows XP, Vista & 7

What is MBR
MBR (Master Boot Record) is a Boot Sector which is Preinstalled in Storage devices. When we turn on our System firstly Load a program is called BIOS (Basic Input Output System). Bios take memory address from Master boot Record to Continue Boot up process. Because MBR contains all Essential Files for loading Operating system. The MBR is also Known as Master Boot Sector & Boot Sector. The first Location of MBR in Hard disk is Cylinder 0 Head 0 Sector 1.



Errors ! When MBR corrupted 
  • Error In loading Operating system
  • Invalid Partition Table
  • Missing Operating System
Mostly You Get these Errors when you Dual Boot your System i.e. When you install two OS on your computer like Windows XP & Linux & Format one of them. Now When you try to boot up your system with other OS it access files from old location where uninstalled OS was present. But there is no Boot loader. So your system produce one of the above Errors.

Mostly When users get one of these Error. They Thought that window is corrupted & install a fresh copy of Window. But there is no need to format your window. You have to map your Boot loader with operating System.

How to Fix this Problem (Step-By-Step-Guide)
In Windows XP :
(Note : This trick is not Applicable if you still running two operating systems on computer. If you do this where dual boot OS are running your MBR & boot sectors are messed up)
  • Restart your computer & Insert Windows XP Setup installation disc.
  • Press any key to Boot from CD & After the Setup loads the windows is shown as below image just Press R to repair Window.
  • Now Command Prompt is appear just Press 1 & then Enter. Now enter Administrator Password of your system. As Shown in Image :


  • Just run a Command fixmbr & hit enter. It's Done...Your MBR is replaced.
In Windows Vista & Windows 7 :
  • Insert Windows Vista/ Windows 7 CD/DVD. Restart your computer & boot it from CD/DVD.
  • Select Languages, Currency, Time etc. as per your requirement. Click On Next.
  • Now the following Window is appear. select Repair your computer.


  • Select your Operating system & click On Next. Now Select Command Prompt from the following window.

  • In Window Vista, Type bootrec.exe & hit Enter. 
  • In Windows 7, Type bootsect/nt60 & press Enter.
(Make Sure That the commands are run where operating system in installed (generally C:/>).
  • It's all Done. Now just Eject your CD/DVD & Restart your Computer at once.
This is very quick & simple trick that save your time & also your important Data .
